Lassa Fever: NDDC Begins Distribution Of Kits & Equipment To 9 States

Lassa-fever-NL
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), said on Wednesday that it had commenced distribution of kits and equipment to fight spread of Lassa fever in the nine states in Niger Delta.
This is contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by Mr Chijioke Amu-Nnadi, the commission’s Head of Corporate Affairs Unit.
The statement quoted Mrs Ibim Semenitari, Acting Managing Director of NDDC, as saying that the commission was concerned about high occurrence of the disease in Edo, Ondo and Rivers.
It said 1,800 pieces of kits, cold chains, sanitizers and personal protective equipment had been donated to the Rivers Central Medical Stores to distribute to patients in Rivers.
“We will also send kits to other states for prevention measures; so that the disease can be quickly contained if it spreads to other states.
“Distribution of Lassa fever kits and facilities to store vaccines is part of the commission’s commitments to support the fight against infectious diseases and health challenges in the region.
“The commission will soon donate mosquito nets to states health ministries which will be distributed to people in rural communities”, Semenitari was quoted in the statement as saying.
The statement quoted the Rivers Commissioner for Health, Dr Theophilus Odagme, as saying that the kits and facilities would help checkmate Lassa fever and other infectious diseases in the state.
Odagme said the cold chain facility had increased the state’s capacity to store vaccines and enhance immunisation.
“We are hoping to explore more ways of collaborating with NDDC in tackling health challenges while delivering quality healthcare services to people of the state,” the statement said.

Girls Rescued From The Clutches Of Boko Haram Get Unexpectedly Hostile Homecoming (Photos)

Girls
It was the hashtag that turned the spotlight on the crisis of Nigerian girls and women being abducted by Boko Haram: #BringBackOurGirls.
But now that government and humanitarian efforts are resulting in some women being rescued from the Islamic militant group and returned to their homes, it seems not all Nigerians are welcoming them with open arms.
According to a joint report released Tuesday by UNICEF and human rights group International Alert, many women and teen girls who were once held by Boko Haram are being rejected by their families and communities.
People treat the former captives with mistrust over fears the women have become radicalized supporters of the extremists.
But the suspicious behavior of family members tends to become explicit persecution if the former captives bore children after being sexually assaulted by members of Boko Haram.
boko
The babies may be innocent, but they are seen by locals as being infected with “bad blood” from their rapist Boko Haram fathers, according to the report.
“There is a belief that, like their fathers, the children will inevitably do what hyenas do and ‘eat’ the innocent dogs around them,” wrote the report’s authors.
Rejected by their families and neighbors, many of the women and their children are being pushed into poverty.
To avoid homelessness and to provide for their babies, some are turning to prostitution to earn money. As a result, the children themselves are “at risk of rejection, abandonment, discrimination, and potential violence,” wrote the report’s authors.
“These findings show a pressing need to do more to reintegrate those returning from captivity by Boko Haram,” Kimairis Toogood, International Alert’s peace-building adviser in Nigeria, said in a statement.
“Many of these girls already face lasting trauma of sexual violence and being separated from their families, so we must ensure they get all the support they need when they finally return.”
Resue
Approximately 2,000 women and girls have been abducted since 2012. Despite the campaign in raising awareness, the nearly 300 abducted schoolgirls still haven’t been returned home.
As for those girls and women who have been rescued, only to face a hostile homecoming, International Alert and UNICEF said more humanitarian assistance for them is needed.
“There is a fear that if the needs of these survivors and returning populations are not met, these factors could add another dimension to an already complex conflict situation in northeast Nigeria,” said Toogood.

Kanye West tells 'white publications' to 'not comment on black music' during Grammy-night Twitter rant

Kanye West went on another rant on Grammys night, telling white publications not to comment on black music anymore.
He said: 'My album will never never never be on Apple. And it will never be for sale... You can only get it on Tidal,' wrote Kanye on Twitter. Continue...

'Please to all my friends fans and music lovers. Sign up to Tidal now.'
He then ended his series of tweets by writing; 'Also all Good Fridays songs will be on Tidal. Me and Kendrick got 40 songs and me and Young Thug got 40 songs. 40/40 club!!!'
Good Fridays is a free music giveaway Kanye launched while promoting his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

It relaunched in January of this year to promote his new album and will now continue it seems on Tidal.
It is unclear what Kanye's anger towards Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, New York Times stems from, though it could be a result of their reception of his new album.

Taylor Swift takes a swipe at Kanye West at the Grammys..lol

Taylor Swift took a swipe at Kanye West as she received her award for Album of the Year for the second time at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards for '1989'. This came after Kanye West, recently put Swift in his new song "Famous," where he said, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous."
Taylor said:

"I want to thank fans for the last 10 years and the Recording Academy for giving us this unbelievable honor. I want to thank all of my collaborators that you season this stage, mostly I want to thank my co-executive producer Max Martin who has deserved to be up here for 25 years," she began. ....
"And as the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.
"But if you just focus on the work and you don't let those people sidetrack you, someday, when you get where you are going, you will look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment."
Waiting for Kanye's response, lol.

Texas man who has been arrested 8 times escapes police custody

A North Texas man with a long arrest record got away from Lewisville police during a visit to a hospital emergency room.
Thomas Isaac Cano, 27, of the north Dallas suburb of Little Elm, was in the Lewisville city jail Sunday when he complained of heroin withdrawal symptoms, said Capt. Dan Rochelle of the Lewisville Police Department.
An officer took Cano to a local emergency room and while the inmate was waiting to be seen, the officer stepped away to help with a disturbance involving another patient, Rochelle said.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Cano left the hospital handcuffed in front and without shoes, the captain said. Cano was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, blue jeans and hospital socks.

His most recent arrest was on Saturday afternoon, when Lewisville police were called to a Walmart parking lot where employees found him slumped over the steering wheel of his car, Rochelle said.
Because Cano seemed ill, the officer called for paramedics, but Cano put his car in drive and took off, hitting some pallets of landscaping materials in the parking lot, Rochelle said.

After a short chase, Cano's car came to a stop but he refused to get out. Eventually, the officer broke a car window, used a stun gun and took Cano into custody, Rochelle said.

"Diabetes is completely reversible" - World Health Organization

The information below was published by WHO a few months ago. I am sure it will be of help to you.So many death caused by Diabetes is due to ignorance or lack of knowledge on it. These spurred the need to highlight to you the following facts sourced from WHO (World Health Organization)
documentation.
1.There is an emerging epidemic of diabetes that can be traced back to rapid increase
in overweight, obesity and physical inactivity.Total deaths from diabetes are projected to
rise by more than 50% in the next 10 years. Most notably, they are projected to increase
by over 80% in upper- middle income countries.

2.T1D [ Type1 Diabetes] is characterized by a lack of insulin production.

3. T2D[ Type2 Diabetes] results from the body's ineffective use of insulin.T2D is much more common than T1D, and accounts for around 90% of all Diabetes worldwide. www.wellnesshub.com.ng

4. Reports of T2D in children- previously rare- have increased worldwide. In some countries,
it accounts for almost half of newly diagnosed cases in children and adolescents.

5. A third type of diabetes is gestational diabetes. This type is characterized by hyperglycemia, or rapid blood sugar, which is first recognized during pregnancy.

6. 80% of diabetes deaths are now occurring in low- and middle- income countries.   The full impact is much larger, because although people may live for years with diabetes, their cause of death is often recorded as heart diseases or kidney failure.

7. Lack of awareness about diabetes, combined with insufficient access to health services, can lead to complications such as blindness, amputation and kidney failure.

8. Diabetes can be prevented. Thirty minutes of moderate intensity physical activity on most days, a healthy diet and nutritional supplementation can drastically reduce
the risk of developing T2D.

9. Diabetes has a devastating effect on virtually every system in the body, which sets the stage for a variety of diabetic complications. But, as I will explain, this devastation is largely preventable.Diabetes is a nutritional wasting disease. The elevated blood sugar levels that characterize diabetes cause excessive urination. In fact, diabetes mellitus is taken from two Greek words meaning “to pass through” and “Sugar" referring to excessive glucose-laden urination.    www.wellnesshub.com.ng

10. High blood sugar levels, which are caused by either lack of insulin or insulin resistance (type 1 or type 2 diabetes, respectively), overwhelm the kidneys’ capacity to reabsorb
glucose as well as all water-soluble nutrients. Elevated blood sugar levels essentially act like
an osmotic diuretic, washing out virtually everything.

Every time blood sugar rises and urination increases, patients with diabetes lose water, magnesium, zinc, B12, B6, folic acid, and many other nutrients. Although water is replaced by drinking, nothing is done to replenish the water-soluble nutrients that are also swept out.

Diabetes Is Completely Reversible. www.wellnesshub.com.ng
Replacing Lost Vitamins and Minerals Is Critical. As a result of these continual nutritional losses, diabetes is the number one cause of blindness, amputation, and kidney failure, and it dramatically increases the risk of both heart attack and stroke.

I believe that if you were to give a healthy person an osmotic diuretic every day without replacing nutrients, they would develop these (and other) diabetic complications.

This is one of the vital things that our Natural Diabetes solution "GLUCOFIT " offers.  www.wellnesshub.com.ng

All of the components in our natural solution help to replace lost nutrients as a result of
excessive urination. No wonder this natural solution is working wonders.

Chinese journalist banned from flying to US to accept a prize for his work

A pioneering journalist who fought to expose the deaths of tens of millions of his fellow citizens in China’s Great Famine has been banned from leaving the country to accept a prize for his work in the United States.
Yang Jisheng, a retired correspondent from Beijing’s official news service Xinhua, was awarded Harvard University’s prestigious Louis M Lyons Award in December for his “ambitious and fearless reporting” on one of the 20th century’s deadliest man-made catastrophes.
The prize, which Yang had hoped to collect at a ceremony in Massachusetts next month, was in recognition of his 2008 book Tombstone.

The 1,200-page work – considered the most authoritative account of a tragedy China’s Communist leaders still attempt to conceal – meticulously documents the horrific toll of the 1958-1961 famine in which the author estimates at least 36 million lives were lost, including that of his own father.

Announcing its decision to honour Yang last year, Harvard said it hoped to recognise courageous and dedicated journalists who were battling to “document the dark and difficult struggles of humankind”.
However, the Guardian understands that Xinhua, the state-run news agency for which Yang worked, has forbidden the 75-year-old author from travelling to the US to collect the award.
In a brief response to a faxed request for comment, a Xinhua spokesperson said: “[W]e never heard Mr Yang received an award, so we are not able to give you any response.”
In a statement, the co-chairs of the Lyons Award, Hamish Macdonald and Debra Adams Simmons, said: “We remain optimistic that Chinese journalist and author Yang Jisheng will be granted permission to travel to Harvard University on Thursday 10th March 2016 to accept the annual Louis M Lyons Award.
“We are following all necessary steps to enable Mr Yang to travel to Harvard in March. We have no formal indication of any problem and look forward to welcoming Mr Yang.”
Contacted by telephone on Monday, Yang, who lives in Beijing, declined to discuss the situation.
Yang Jisheng was born in the central province of Hubei in 1940, nine years before Chairman Mao’s communists seized power.
As a young man he was a committed member of the Communist party, which he joined in 1964. After graduating from Beijing’s elite Tsinghua University in 1966 he quickly secured a job at Xinhua where he worked until his retirement in 2001.
But Yang’s enthusiasm for the party faded as he journeyed across China on reporting trips and came to grasp the scale of the human tragedy Mao’s Great Leap Forward push for industrialisation had unleashed on his country.
“The chief culprit was Mao,” Yang later recalled in an interview.
In the early nineties, further disillusioned by the 1989 Tiananmen massacre, the journalist began secretly piecing together the famine’s hidden history as a way of remembering those who had died.
He roamed the country, surreptitiously building up an extensive body of first-hand interviews and documentary evidence about a disaster that has been described as China’s hidden Holocaust.

“I just had a very strong desire to find out the facts,” Yang told the Guardian in 2012. “I was cheated and I don’t want to be cheated again.”
Yang’s unprecedented investigation - first published in Hong Kong in 2008 and unavailable to this day in mainland China - earned him plaudits around the world.

The author has received a succession of international awards for his work and was previously able to travel overseas to receive them.

In November last year Yang visited Sweden to accept the Stieg Larsson award in recognition of the “journalistic courage he has shown in finding and telling the truth” about the Great Famine.
The travel ban is the latest sign of the increasingly toxic political climate in China.
Since Xi Jinping came to power in late 2012 academics, journalists, authors, lawyers and activists have all complained of increasing pressure from authorities.
Experts say many talented young Chinese journalists are abandoning the profession, partly because of their frustration at intensifying censorship.

Historians meanwhile complain that securing access to government archives containing material about sensitive periods such as the Great Famine has become increasingly difficult.
In the introduction to the English edition of his book, Yang said his 15-year inquiry into the famine was an attempt to expose how a totalitarian system had attempted to forcibly eradicate all memory of the disaster.
“A tombstone is memory made concrete. Human memory is the ladder on which a country and a people advance,” he wrote. “I erect this tombstone so that people will remember and henceforth renounce man-made calamity, darkness and evil.”
Frank Dikötter, the author of Mao’s Great Famine, said the decision to prevent Yang travelling to the US underscored the deteriorating political situation.
“I’m not really surprised in that [over] the last two if not three years there really has been a very chilling effect on historians and more generally anybody who writes critically about the past,” he said.
“That has become very clear in the last year or so. It is very sad,” Dikötter added.
“In a nutshell, it has been made pretty clear by decree that undermining the credibility of the Communist party by querying episodes of the history of the CCP [Chinese Communist party] or questioning some of its leading figures, meaning Chairman Mao, is not desirable.”
Dikötter described Yang’s work on the Great Famine as “essential”. “It will take somebody from China to grind the reputation of Chairman Mao into dust,” he said.

Cristiano Ronaldo is labelled 'Spornosexual' by Mark Simpson who authored the term 'metrosexual'

According to Mark Simpson who created the term 'metrosexual', (which refers to a straight man who embraces the homosexual lifestyle, i.e. refined tastes in clothing, excessive use of designer hygiene products, a straight guy who’s so cool, smart, attractive, stylish, and cultured, that everyone thinks he’s gay), football star Cristiano Ronaldo is a Spornosexual.

Ronaldo has always been seen as the classic metrosexual: grooming and taking care of his appearance with meticulous care, and always sporting the latest fashion trend. Speaking in an interview with Catalan paper La Vanguardia yesterday, Simpson labeled Cristiano Ronaldo as a classic ‘Spornosexual‘implying he was at the forefront of the new frontier of men.

"(Spornosexual is) a fusion of sport and porn: cultivating an athletic body as an object of desire, and showing it off on social networks, accumulating sexual partners.' 'It’s a tendency with young men. Look at Cristiano Ronaldo: the self-praise of his body. The spornosexual wants to be loved for his body, not for what he does.’ Simpson said.

Argentine player shoots referee dead & injures another player after he was given red card

An amateur football match was marred by violence after a player shot and killed a referee and also injured another player after he was given a red card. The match took place on Sunday in the Campo de la Ribera area of Cordoboa, Argentina. The referee, Cesar Flores, 48, was killed after being shot three times - once in the head, neck and chest, according to police.

According to the report bt MirrorSport, Police say referee Cesar Flores, 48, showed the assailant a red card for making a heavy tackle on an opponent. The player, who is at large, then retrieved a gun from his bag and shot Flores three times. He also wounded another player, 25-year-old Walter Zarate, before fleeing the scene.

Walter Zarate, was taken to hospital, though he is not in critical condition.
"It all happened during the match,” a police spokesman said. “We don’t know what happened with the referee but the player was angry and went to get his gun and killed him.”
The shooting appears to have taken place during an amateur game that the Argentina’s Football Federation might not have organized. If so, this looks like a case of social problems in the South American nation spilling onto the field of play.
